FormulaVentures
http://www.formulaventures.com/
Formula Ventures was founded as the successor fund for Argotec, a Formula Group company. Formula Ventures manages two venture funds – FV-I established in late 1998 and FV-II established in early 2001.
The roots of Formula Ventures are in Argotec, the early stage investment arm of the Formula Group. Argotec was established in 1993, and managed by Shai Beilis from early 1995 to late 1998, as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Formula Group, to invest in early stage Israeli Information Technology companies. Argotec was a holding company with eight portfolio companies in which it held majority interests. Argotec actively nurtured its portfolio companies and assisted them in building management teams, forging strategic relationships and taking them public. Argotec helped build companies such as Wiztec Solutions and Crystal System Solutions, both of which went public on NASDAQ in 1996 and 1997 respectively producing extraordinary returns.
During the same period the start-up environment in Israel had undergone dramatic changes. Aided by an initiative of the Israeli government, a local venture capital industry emerged. The availability of capital, coinciding with the explosion of the Internet, swelled the ranks of Israeli entrepreneurs and grew the number of investment opportunities exponentially. Recognizing the unique value it could offer to both entrepreneurs and venture fund investors, the Formula Group decided to spin out a venture capital group – Formula Ventures. Formula Ventures’ strategy was clear and straight-forward: provide true added value to early stage technology companies. To that end Formula Ventures built a professional team with deep Information Technology operational experience and broad coverage of the communications, data communications, Internet, enterprise software, engineering software and semiconductor sectors.
Formula Ventures I was established in late 1998 with Shai Beilis as Managing Partner. In 1999 FV-I completed its financing, at the time as the largest first time Israeli fund and the largest early stage - focus Israeli fund. The portfolio of FV-I grew from six companies in 1998 to twenty in 2000, divided among communications and data communications infrastructure, Internet infrastructure and enterprise software.
In early 2001 FV-II was launched as a successor fund and third investment vehicle managed by the Formula Ventures team. FV-II practices a strategy of local source – global nurture, selecting the best of Israeli technology companies and nurturing their development in their target markets. Formula Ventures is aided in this strategy by its strategic partners – Formula Group in Israel, VantagePoint Venture Partners in the U.S. and UBS Capital in Europe.

The professional resources we provide focus on the key operational and management support start ups need to get going. Whether it's human resources recruitment, legal counsel or financial planning, our professionals work hand-in-hand with companies to assure delivery of desired and timely advice and involvement.
A Fund. A Family.
ISP partners are entrepreneurs. We started like a start up and continue to operate in that mode. We move fast, are agile and are completely independent. This means that we can make decisions and deals quickly. We do not have an investment committee. It's just the team of partners. We get in a room and make our decisions.
When we say we are a team, we mean it. It is actually more like a family. All of ISP's partners bring their experience, network of contacts and expertise to each of our portfolio companies. Moreover, as a family we all work together and help one another and leverage our extended family to the hilt.
Our investors are also a resource to our entrepreneurs. Our network of contacts serves our portfolio companies, and we leverage our buying power as a fund to get the most for our companies. We at Israel Seed are with our entrepreneurs for the long haul and see the results of our successes as being rooted in the nurturing and backing we provide every step of the way.

» Our approach to investing
Veritas is a long-term player. We typically lead investments in companies at the earliest, highest-risk phase of their development, and we expect to continue working closely with the entrepreneurs and to provide financial support throughout the investee companies' funding cycles.
Our managerial philosophy involves careful selection of investment opportunities, and ongoing value-adding activities in close association with the investee companies, normally through active directorship. We promote and reward entrepreneurship, and aim for realization of long-term capital gains, primarily by taking companies public in the US.
Veritas often takes a pro-active approach to forming new companies, by defining a focus-area for a company, developing a business model and putting a founding team in place.

» Whom does Veritas back?
Veritas backs entrepreneurs of varying profiles, from young technology leaders with no proven track record, to seasoned executives experienced in building successful businesses. Having been in the venture capital business for a decade and a half, we know that it is the quality of the people that carries businesses forward. We seek to form long-term partnerships with entrepreneurs, and ascribe particularly high value to certain qualities of those individuals: personal and professional excellence, creativity, discipline, leadership skills, unqualified integrity, and a desire to learn and grow in partnership with us.

» Our funds
While we manage several vehicles, we are currently investing primarily from our new VVP Fund II, raised in late 2001. The capital under our management originates primarily from large, multinational institutions. These include a large multinational corporation headquartered in Asia, which enables us to create a bridge for Israel-based high-tech companies to Pacific Rim markets.

» The Veritas Difference
Our managers have a longstanding involvement in Israeli venture capital - spanning from the birth of Israel's venture industry in the mid-1980's to the highly dynamic environment of the 2000's - with a proven record of success. We have helped create a number of companies valued at over a billion dollars each. In several cases we have initiated new companies on our own, and have experienced first-hand the trials, tribulations, and excitement of starting new ventures. Veritas's principals have extensive experience in the US markets as well. These experiences provide us with a unique set of skills and relationships that we share with our partnering entrepreneurs.
Veritas seeks to develop close partnerships with a small, carefully selected group of entrepreneurs. We make few investments every year, and will roll up our sleeves and work with entrepreneurs to build their ventures into global leaders.

» Tmura – the Israeli Public Service Venture Fund
Tmura - The Israeli Public Service Venture Fund is a non-profit organization, an “amuta”, established by leading Israeli venture capital funds to involve the high-tech sector in supporting charitable activities. The model is simple: early-stage companies give Tmura a warrant, convertible (at exit) into a small portion of their equity. If the company succeeds, Tmura sells its shares and donates the proceeds to charities in Israel; the focus is on education and youth-related activities, and the companies can indicate which organizations they want to support.
