Default This is an example of what the 419 Scam Looks Like

God Bless you as you read this,

I am Mother Nora Adams from South Africa, the widow of Archdeacon Tom Adams who until his death on September, 2003 after a brief illness served as an Archdeacon in the St. Micheal's Archdeaconry in Ivory Coast for nine years. We were married for eleven years though we had no issue.
Since his death I decided not to re-marry at least for sometime. However, when my husband was alive he deposited the sum of Four million, Five hundred thousand Dollars ($4.5Million) in a renown Bank here in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire.

I have been staying in the hospital for sometime now due to complicated cancer problem. However, at present, my Doctor confirmed to me that I have little chance to life due to the nature and complications associated with the sickness, on this note, I have decided to donate this fund to a church, help foundation or a trust worthy individual that will utilize this money the way I am going to instruct herein.
I want the fund to be used on orphanages, disaster victims, helping the widows and the forgotten ones in the society. "Blessed is the hand that giveth" is a timeless message that has always been in my heart. I took this decision because I don稚 have any child that will inherit this money and my husband brother who lives abroad is an atheist and doesn't care nor show any interest in the affairs of my family. I am not afraid of death because I know where I am going.

I will give you the Bank details when more trust has developed. I want you to always pray for me also. My happiness is that I lived a worthy life.
Whoever that wants to serve the Lord must serve him in spirit and Truth. Please always be prayerful all through your life.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
Peace be unto you
Nora.

I've received this type of scam many times in my email inbox. So what I did, I just ignored it.

I don't know how some people believe something like this. I've heard many stories where people lose thousands of dollars by falling for this. I guess people need money so badly that they will believe anything. I understand how that feels but sometimes something is too good to be true.

I've seen this kind of thing in my mailbox, but I never pay any attention to them.

I wonder what percentage of people actually are taken in by these scams?

People must be taken in by them otherwise, they would not insist on bombarding our mailboxes with these sorts of things. They prey on both big hearted people and those who are lured by money. The best thing to do is just ignore them.

Yes, I have received similar emails as well. Someone is dying, or their funds is arrested (unfairly, of course), or they have some other reason to share their millions with me. I just need to give them my bank infol. Yeah, right.

I have been receiving tons of those emails. I know a person that actually was caught in that trap. It really took some time until he recovered from the losses.

I hope they catch as many of those people trying to scam the hard working individuals.

Default What I do

What I do is I find out what web based email server they are on ..

So if they send an email from a yahoo.com or hotmail.com account, I forward the email to abuse@yahoo.com or abuse@hotmail.com.

In the re subject line I put "419 SCAM CLOSE THIS EMAIL ACCOUNT". This will close the email account till they open the next one (minutes later of course). But it would stop them for a bit if they are in the middle pulling the scam on someone.
